THE EMILY FOUNDATION IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE FOUNDATION’S GRANT TO THE DENVER VETERAN’S AFFAIRS MEDICAL CENTER RESEARCH INSTITUTE NOW IN ITS 5th YEAR HAS PRODUCED FORMIDABLE REASEARCH FINDINGS
Dr. Leland Shapiro
Principal Investigator
Dr. Shapiro is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Staff Physician and specialist on Infectious Disease at the Denver Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center and a well-established clinician and medical researcher. He is known for his 20 years of research in the areas of cytokine biology and HIV molecular biology and the discoverer of the endogenous inhibitor of HIV in blood (Alfa-1 antitrypsin), which led to the synthesis of a successful anti-HIV synthetic molecule. His work is well published (Click here for CV ).
The study: Novel Theory of Infectious Disease Pathogenesis: Explanation and Deconstruction of the Hyperinflammation (“Cytokine Storm”) Concept of Infectious Diseases Pathogenesis has been independently evaluated by Dr. Benjamin Young, MD. PHD, AAHIVS ( Click here for CV.) Dr Young found the study not only “compelling” but “If validated, the theory would be revolutionary and of global importance to biology and medicine.”
Based on the study’s interim findings, the Foundation agrees with Dr, Young’s independent evaluation, that Dr. Shapiro may have succeeded in constructing a comprehensive, and intuitive alternative concept that may represent a “paradigm shift” in this field. The Foundation looks forward to the publication of the study’s discoveries.
